We chat with Kevin Phillips of Orgy Stories. Kevin is a storyteller, comedian, and podcast producer in Denver, Colorado. We discuss how he started Orgy Story podcast from a narrative based project. Kevin discusses how he went from concept to show and how the podcast evolved over just a few months. He explains the difference between a” Sex Comedy vs. Inclusive Sex Comedy” and why there is a crucial distinction. Kevin talks about how a lot of comedy is not sex-positive and can sometimes even perpetuate harmful attitudes. We talk about how Kevin isn’t a trained sexuality professional and how he has used his own experiences to start a podcast that’s outside the lines. He describes how he strives to be informed and even provide education by interviewing trained sexuality professionals, like sex therapists.

Welcome to Orgy Story! A narrative podcast about hosting, attending, and destigmatizing Orgies”

We were introduced to Kevin from Dr, David Ley and went on to work together at the Sexual Health Alliance for the SAR (Sexual Attitude Reassessment). We brainstormed an experiential component that was optional where students could challenge their beliefs and attitudes around alternative sexuality. Kevin recorded the background noise from this gathering and used it as a trailer for his podcast – what a clever idea!

We also discuss his perfect voice and his history of classes and training it took to get there. Kevin indicated that he also practices and flexes it, just like any other muscle. Kevin then discusses how to gain podcast sponsorship and the challenges he has experienced due to COVID-19 as one of his podcasts is about orgies which is a higher risk activity in the pandemic.

Meet Kevin Philips:

Kevin Phillips is a storyteller, comedian, and podcast producer. He likes to think he brings a “he was in a family band growing up” quality to the stage. In reality, it’s probably more of a “you let *him* teach community college?” kind of quality. If you’d like more of him (like way more, probably too much) tune into his narrative-based project Orgy Story. You can also hear him cracking wise about MMA and Fighting people on the weekly show Verbal Tap MMA Comedy Podcast. Want to hear him live? Well after COVID go to the nearest Athiest Bi Sexual inclusive bar. Cheers.
