In this episode:

We discuss being black and kinky, racism in porn, swinging and more. Jasmine talked about her experience teaching for the Sexual Health Alliance in the Sex Therapy Certification training program and her journey to become a sex therapist, her self. We also learn how Jasmine found a specialization in Intimacy Post Injury, Trauma and Intimacy Post Illness in her private practice. And finally, we discuss a recent interview that Dr. David Ley did with Jasmine that was titled: My Therapist, the Porn Star in Psychology Today.

How Jet Setting Jasmine came out:

We talk about the tense moment of how Jasmine hit send on the first video she made. Jasmine describes vulnerability as she was putting herself at the mercy of the judgment of others. She discusses having backup plans and how she had to decide that she wasn’t going to live in shame.

Therapists and Porn:

Mental health professionals face a high degree of ignorance towards porn from their colleagues. Simultaneously, this allows the opportunity for them to educate their peers about pornography, sex work and the adult entertainment industry from their own experience. This is a big, important responsibility Jasmine took on in the field, but it has paid off not only personally but also professionally. We discuss how doing your own work, getting your own therapy has helped her become a better therapist in the long run. Jasmine describes how important authenticity is in her work, not only as a therapist but in all things she does, and how that is now modeled for her clients. She is now able to show up fully, as her true self.

“Living in truth is what we want for our clients, so we as therapists have to be willing and able to do so as well.”
